August Wrap-Up

This month was not my biggest reading month, I read three books and one of them nearly put me in a slump and it was one that I had very high hopes for - so lets jump into my thoughts and feelings on the following books!

Just For The Summer by Abbey Jimenez

I’d heard lots of chatter about this book from the Booktok community. Jimenez’s third book to the Part Of Your World Series has blown up and I made the decision to skip the first two books to see what all the hype was about as this was my first book by Jimenez. This helped me decide if I felt it worth it to then go and read the first two.

I really enjoyed this book! I’m easy to cringe at romance books but I did none of that with this one. It had emotional depth that I was not expecting and kept me on the hook. These characters kept it real and overall were very likeable (most of them). It was such a quick page-turner of a read that I felt like I was watching a movie in my head with minimal effort, which is exactly what I like with romance.

When The Moon Hatched by Sarah J. Parker

My downfall with this book was going in with high expectations. I’d heard a few people online rave about it and when I saw it on the Kindle monthly deals I thought it was a sign. This book is what pulled me back from all the books I didn’t get to read, as it was a beastly 700 pages. Perhaps because I was reading on my kindle I thought I could fly through it but that was not the case, this just dragged for me unfortunately.

I found the world-building and magic system unique and interesting, whilst trying my hardest to understand what it all meant! I’m conflicted when it comes to the writing, at some points I thought it was beautiful and other times I thought it was unnecessary and over the top. The dragons were my favourite part of this book. I found Raeve’s internal monologue to be a little repetitive (but I did like how fiercely independent she was).

That being said I was interested in the storyline but the whole time I was waiting for it to lift off the ground, especially around the 70% mark but I felt it never really did and the ending was unsatisfying. I was left with a lot of questions and one of them being do I really want to read the next book to get them?

Paris: The Memoir by Paris Hilton

I didn’t know much about Paris Hilton before listening to her memoir but it was shocking and enraging to learn about the horrible and disgusting events that she has endured. I was listening to this continuously thinking ‘just when you thought it can’t get any worse… it does’. The pink cover fooled me and if I hadn’t heard of a few people talking about how important this book was I never would of cared to read it honestly, but it shows that just like a book you should never judge people by how they look. Hilton may have the exterior of pink, glitz and glamour but behind that front is just a person trying to find joy after spending so long in the dark.
